I am reasonably compitent with computers, but this is stumping me.

My PC is set up with a dual boot configuration which has been running fine for over a year without a glitch, until now.

Now it won't boot either configuration, even in safe mode nor debugging mode. Everytime it I boot in safe mode it resets itself after the loading of Mup.sys and hangs in debug mode. I have tried to reinstall XP but mid way through loading the initial files it resets itself.

I have monitored the hardware in the BIOS for 5 mins and there is no spike or heat problems with the motherboard or processor, could this be a hardware problem or is there a way for me to solve this.

I would say you have a hardware problem. First thing to replace would be the PSU "power supply unit" and go from there.

First thing I would do is pop the hard drive in another machine as slave and backup any files that you need to save.
You say you have a dual boot, what other os do you have on the computer?
Try this
Boot with your Windows XP Disc and select the R option for the System Recovery Console. Once you're logged into that simply run chkdsk /p on C:\
Might work, might not, worth a try.

I doubt this to be a hardware problem... usually when hardware goes you get a big nothing... you're at least getting something though it may be little. I would first have a look at the partiton table and Master Boot Record sections of the drive. If the MBR is buggard, then XP will malfunction even if re-installed

I am running XP Home on both, I know that this sounds odd, but one of the boots is for running high end music software and the other for all the regular stuff ie, internet, office apps and a couple of games. When I try to boot from xp cd it now loads only a few of the drivers before reseting or hanging.
