run a complete scandisk
if you still have problems, it might be worth your while to format the drive to NTFS and reinstall windows... if yuo get "serious errors" at startup every time, thats usually a sign of corrupt system files... which can either be fixed by reinstalling windows, scandisk (in some cases) or making use of the system restore feature in windows xp
