Comment:

I recently installed XP and it worked fine for a while. Now when I start up my computer it will restart on it's own and go to a screen to check one of my "disks for consistency." Then when windows finally comes up it says I have recovered from a serious error. The error involves these files:
C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini103001-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\default\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER2.tmp.dir00\sysdata.xml

Anyone know what I should do?

The only way around this issue is to do a repair on xp. The msg will appear once on reboot, then it will correct it self on the next one. this problem occurs on admin accounts and there's really no way around. I've tryed deleting profiles but the issue still exist, the file resides under docs & settings\%username%\local settings\temp..

I have the same error message. It only appears in the admin account.

This error came about after I tried to install Linux as a second OS in the dual boot mode. This was Red Hat Linux 7.1 and it tried to format an unpartitioned part of my hard disk to the ext3 file system.
Half way through the computer rebooted and since then, I always have the "recovered from serious error" message.

I checked my hard disk for errors, deleted my Linux partitions and converted them to NTFS system but still could not find anything wrong. My PC works fine otherwise but the error message keeps popping up everytime I log in as admin.

Anyone knows what to do ?

I cannot seem to rid this issue either. The pop up comes everytime I log into windows. I have made several posts but nothing seems to work. This serious error came up when I started installing/removing few programs from control panel.

C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini120101-15.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\SUMEER~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER1.tmp.dir00\sysdata.xml

I had this error, and I got it to go away by uninstalling mIRC. Might be worth a shot if it's on your computer and you don't use it much.

Use your XP cd to boot, choose repair option "r" and type chkdsk /r at the prompt. This will find and repair errors that running chkdsk in XP wont. It may take some time so be patient.

I had this same "sysdata.xml error, and I got it to go away by editing teh registry by "regedit" and doing a search on all the enteries with sysdata . I found two entries; one was referring to a file in word and was commented bye a "mad onion benchmark comment". I installed mad onion to perform a benchmark but I let the program stay.

I deleted also all the *.dmp files in the windows\minidump and deleted all the files in the windows\temp

I am STILL having this problem after trying many of these fixes. The problem with this error is that it may go away... Or appear to "go away" for several reboots and then reappear the next day. I'm beginning to lean towards wiping out windows/program files/docs-settings and starting over. I'm fairly certain this error began happening with one of the following. Updated detonator drivers (GForce) or Microsoft hotfix installs.

Try uninstalling old programs or find patches for them that are not compatible with XP or try running those programs after setting them up with the compatiblity wizard(and setting it to an older windows version)

I fought this problem for DAYS and what I came up with it that I have a corrupt MFT or Master File Table associated with NTFS volumes. I discovered that after running chkdsk as suggested I ended up with files that were completely untouchable and even worse, strange security policies were being propigated throughout my files that should not be there. For instance, I had a file named "{S-123-324-5-1223323-2323232323}" that an installer created so I wiped windows, reinstalled and still this file was not deleteable. I found others that were not deletable as well in totally non-system related directories. Solution? FORMAT and start over.

my last post was above this one. I forgot to say that my serious error message has not showed up since after running chkdsk /f

so its looks like this fixed the problem, but it seems as if errors still exist on my hard drive, oh well, as long as the error doesnt show up its all good.

so everybody try running: chkdsk /f

it will probably say that your drive is locked, it will ask you to reschedule, type in Y, and press enter, restart your computer, it will perform the scan, and hopefully that will work for you :)

I have been following this thread since I have the very same problem. I tried all of the above, even formatting my harddisk en starting all over again. No luck. A few days after formatting my system, the error re-appeared out of the blue. Just the way it did on my previous use of XP. It says something like C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini103001-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\default\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER2.tmp.dir00\sysdata.xml
If even formatting doesn't work for me, could this problem be related to hardware? I have the most recent drivers available for my hardware (I think).
And I also get blue screens that say: "bad-pool-caller", and a whole bunch of numbers at the bottom. They pop up at random, even while surfing on the net. Only thing I can do here is restart PC...
I am getting quite desperate since I bought a completely new and fast PC, but I can't run XP properly.
ANY help would be kindly appriciated!

I used Roxio's EZ CD creator twice. The third time while burning a disk XP popped up and said I had a serious error. Now I can't start CD creator without a serious problem window popping up. I've reinstalled drivers, even Roxio's software and I still can't use it. Is XP just another Microsoft BS version?

When you want to delete a file without it going to the recycle bin hold Shift and press the delete key. I do it all the time. Using the mouse to right click and delete might be your problem.

My motherinlaw got a new HP Pavilion w/XP. I swapped out the original mouse for a Miscosoft optical. However she pulled it out by accident and couldn't get it back in, so she put back the original HP mouse. The old mouse worked but the HP began throwing the XP serious error on start up. I had to uninstall all the Microsoft optical mouse software and drivers to fix the error.

Ok I was on the phone with Msft all day. I totaled about 4-5 hours with them and still have no solution to this problem. Msft says they have not heard of this before. I had a problem selecting files, then holdinging shift while I right click the mouse to delete them and pass the recycle bin. (Shift delete does the same thing) But after I make that right click, my computer restarts. I FIXED this problem by going to CONTROL PANEL, SYSTEM, clicking on advanced tab, Performance settings, and then taking all the checks out of ALL the boxes OR either by clicking on "Adjust for best performance". That fixed it but it should be working right in the first place. I should HAVE to do that to fix a problem.

Anyway, my SECOND problem is when I have a cd in the cdrom COPYING files to my hard drive and at the same time I have Internet Explorer up and running and I try to delete something in the address bar. As soon as I hit the DELETE key in the address bar of IE, my computer restarts as well. I have not been able to fix this yet.

My THIRD problem is sometimes when my computer is in heavy processing and lagging or when a program is trying to freeze up and I try to do a CONTROL ALT DELETE, my computer again crashes and restarts. WHY!!!!!!!!!!! This is so IRRITATING!!!! MAN!!!!! ONE thing all these scenarios have in common is accessing the DELETE option in windows: CTRL ALT DEL command, and deleting in the address bar of IE, and right clicking pulls up a menu with the delete option available... If anyone can explain what file is accessed when the delete command is used or if you have any ideas or info that could help, I would really love to hear.... Thanx

Here's what helped me...

1) deleted the files in c:\windows\minidump\
2) Uninstalled the following:
i) Morpheus
ii) Windows Media Bonus Pack
iii) VIA latency Patch for PCI bus
3) Restarted...

The error disappeared... the problem is I don't know which thing caused my error to away cause I restarted at the end... I reinstalled each program to find out which was causing it and restarted after each install (twice on each install to make sure that it wasn't something that got activated after the first reboot)... and no more problems... I'm wondering if this may relate back to a misfunctioning installation of a program??? Because I am currently running the EXACT same setup as before the only difference is I removed the progs and reinstalled them.... just a thought...

This is gonna seem a little simple, but in my case I had the C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini103001-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\default\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER2.tmp.dir00\sysdata.xml error everytime on startup. Then one time I noticed that MSN Messenger had loaded in my taskbar, so I exited it. I then open Messenger, went to Options, and disabled it from opening on startup. I don't know who this is gonna work for, but it stopped MY problem. And for informational purposes here's the info on my computer:
Dell Dimension 4300 Series
Pentium 4 at 1.6ghz
128MB SDRAM at 133MHz
WindowsXP Home Edition
40GB Hard Drive
64mb NVIDIA GeForce2 MX w/TV-Out Video Card
