What does it mean when "the system has recovered from a serious error; does anyone know what happens for this to come up?
This window usually comes up after an auto restart of the computer just after I play the game Soldier of Fortune. Does anyone know why? I would appreciate any help. thanks

Check the Event Viewer for a clue as to what caused the error.

Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer.

that error is the same as the 'illegal operation' error in the win9x os'es
xp fixes those errors automatically.
illegal operation errors happens when an application calls up .dll files from 2 diff sources, which winders doesn't like, hence the error

I'm quite sure that the game caused the error
because once exiting it, the computer automatically restarts. Once loaded back into Windows again, It then says System has recovered from a serious error.
This always happens every time I exit the game

To solve the restart issue, you need to do the following:

Right click on my computer and click on properties

Click on the advanced tab and click settings on startup and recovery options

Take the check out of restart after critical error or put the check in disable error reporting..

This will not stop the critical error, but keep the system from restarting and reporting it every time the game causes a critical error

I've done everthing you said above and I still get that darn Serious Error dialog box on every startup.

Dell offered the same instructions but it doesn't stop the box from popping up.

It's a BCCode error creating a .dump file and an .xml file every time.

It doesn't hurt the performance of the machine but I need someone to tell me how to get the darn box from popping up.

Thanks, Bryan

I get the same problem after I tried installing nVidia device drivers from microsoft windows update for windows xp pro.
The installation failed and since then I had that error. At first, I tried SYSTEM RESTORE and went back to an earlier checkpoint and it went away. However, just to be certain, I tried installing those same drivers again and got the same error. This time RESTORE didnt work. I looked up online for help, read somewhere since the installation of my nvidia drivers failed it displays that error even if you reinstall drivers, etc. After a while though it should go away so be patient as long as u uninstall what caused it. Surprisingly, its hard to get much info online about this.
