OMG ~ I am soooo not a computer person, but recently my computer has developed a recurrent problem with a "your computer has recovered from a serious error" and when I check the further details I've gotten:

The first time:

C:\DOCUME~1\VALUED~1\LOCALS~1Temp\WERc896c.dir00\Mini102709-02.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\VALUED~1\LOCALS~1Temp\WERc896c.dir00\sysdata.xml

The second time:

C:\DOCUME~1\VALUED~1\LOCALS~1Temp\WERecb1.dir00\Mini103109-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\VALUED~1\LOCALS~1Temp\WERecb1.dir00\sysdata.xml

I have no idea what this means, but I am a single mother who is self-employed as a medical transcriptionist and my computer is my bread and butter. Please, if there's someone who can help me, I'm desperate.

I've run a virus scan from AVG free with no problems, but have no idea what else to check. I don't "speak the language" so any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Aren't computers fantastic!

The first thing to do is to got to Control Panel > System > Advanced > Start-up and Recovery > Settings..

Un-tick automatically restart. The next time the problem occurs you will get a blue-screen-of-death which will give lots of information of what the problem is.

Post the details of the what the screen says.

The details you post will really only have any meaning to a Microsoft technician.

Double Click My Computer, Right click on C:, click on Properties. Click on Disk Cleanup button(next to the Pie Chart). In the list of files to cleanup, uncheck Downloaded Program files and the Recycle Bin, click OK.

See if the error continues.

There is nothing to learn from someone who already agrees with you.

I've done both of the things you lovely people have suggested and am now waiting to see if it happens again.

Thanks!

And, just so you know, it's not a good idea to post your email address in plain text....anywhere...
