I purchased a navigation software woth gps receiver/antenna from travroute that uses serial port. I am using a friends serial to usb adapter but it cannot connect since I do not have a serial hardware in my pc. Is there any other options?. I am using win XP

Don't understand the problem. I use both a serial/USB and a scsi/USB adapter cables with excellent results. You have to install the software for the converter cable and the device (serial or scsi) show up in the operating system as a USB device---period. Once it's thru the conversion the operating system doesn't care what the original source is/was!

In the device manager it states that it loaded the software drivers successfully but it does not detect the hardware. The cable was plugged in tho. I installede this cable and drivers to my other pc with a existing serial port but not use it and it went thru ok. No yellow exclamation .
Maybe my setting are loaded wrong.

I did some more testing. Installed on friends pc with win xp home edition ( I have prfessional) and it worked with his but not with mine. Might be the drivers with the professional edition.

Unlikely that you cna blame the differnce between Home and Pro. There really isn't that great a difference between the two.
