I want to send hexadecimal codes from my laptop to a singel chip computer using C.

I already know that I do the same thing as when I open a file, with the difference that I enter the name of the UART port.

What are the names of the serial ports in Windows XP? I have tried the COM1/COM2 but it doesn't seems to work. Are they "locked"?

Sometimes the comports are deactivated in laptops in order to save power. They can be turned on in the bios.
