In IE click TOOLS / INTERNET OPTIONS and check your security and privacy settins. Each should be set to MEDIUM.

I'm having a similar problem, except I've been using the ISP and modem for quite a few months. I'm sure it isn't my Security/Privacy settings. Could it be my LAN or 1394 connection? or have something to do with a proxy server? I don't think I used a proxy server in the past, but one of the error messages I got when I tried to update IE with the new service pack was about "current proxy setting" or something to that effect.

Thxs grasshopper, but setting change did not help. I have tried other browers also.
It used to work with 56k modem.

Try removing a nasty file in windows/help/host. Took me 2 months to find the nasty thing with no help from Microsoft Security, used four different virus scans did not find it. Once file removed, all pages loaded faster, search engines work great as well as pop up killer software. Good Luck
