I've had this weird problem with my Windows XP installation lately.
When i goto my local area connection status, in the sent packets field i have several billion packets send in a very small amount of uptime. Which to be honest just isnt possible!. Odd thing is that it has happened on my other pc running on the same network (just these 2 pc's) .. Both are connected through a small 10/100 switch which again is connected to my dsl router running dhcp server assigning two different dynamic ips.
The two pc's dont have any hardware specs in common, so i've ruled that out.
Ive come to the conclusion that either its my version of XP which is f***** up, or that somehow my dsl router and local area network somehow makes some weird packet transmitting or something that makes XP confused(?).
Oh yea, my LAN traffic is VERY slow, and at times its down to less than 50kb/sec, which is very slow considering its 100 mbit NIC's.
Btw, the DSL router runs 10 mbit only, but that shouldnt be a problem as long as it sits on the switch which is 10/100, and the two pc's (atleast should) connect at 100 mbit.
Does anyone else have this problem? Or even something similar, i've tried searching everywhere and no luck yet.
Thanks for any help in advance!

got to grc.com and read the story about irc zombie computers, something like that- you seem to have all the symptoms of an d.o.s attack (you've been dossed). But just to be on the safeside...I COULD BE WRONG!

try deleting the Quality of Service (QoS) Packet Scheduler in your network properties. This is a good idea on a large network but on your network very unnecissary. also if rebrek is right you might want to set up the firewall client bundled with WinXP.
