Comment:

When opening(double-clicking) an unassociated file type, or if I select "Open with..." from the right-click menu, I always have to click TWO dialog boxes, first one asks if I want to use the web service (I don't), second one asks which program I want to use to open the file.
I have never used and will never use the web service to analyze my extension. Is it possible to stop this first dialog from appearing and go directly to the "Choose the program you want to use to open this file" dialog?

Thanks
Geddi

Hi there,

Seems your file type associations are messed up.
First you need to check what file types have that problem, ie find out which file extension doesn't respond correctly to the double click.

Each file type comes with it's own extension. Word documents will be .doc, MP3 files will be .mp3, and so on.

On default setup know file type extensions are hidden. I recommend that U change that in Control Panel/folder options/view and uncheck the hide extensions for know file type option.

Once you know which file extension needs to be set, use the Control Panel/folder options/file Types tab to modify parameters.

Remember that you will have to know which application launches which file type extension prior to this.

If you find out that no file type extension responds at all, ie that the dialog boxes appear everytime you doubleclick an icon, whatever that icon may be, than U would probably have to reinstall.... But i doubt that this would be the case...

Hope this helps...

Thanks a lot, barelysane! It worked. I have been looking for that setting for ages.
