Comment:

I want to be able to remove the secure logon requiring me to press ctrl + alt + delete. I've been into Control Panel > User Accounts > Advanced and tried to uncheck the box for secure logon but it's greyed out! I'm logged on as the computer administrator so don't understand what's preventing me. Any ideas?

If you're talking about your home machine, go to users and accounts in the control panel and click, change the way users log on.

Is this a home computer or one on a work network/Domain?

This is a work coputer on a domain. I unpluged it from the network before turning it on and trying to make the changes

How To Enable or Disable the CTRL+ALT+DELETE Sequence for Logging On in Windows XP

Note the part that says ----
If a Windows XP-based computer is part of a domain, domain-wide policies may have been set that override the settings you make on the local computer.

There's no doubt that domain-wide policies may have been set affecting this, however the computer i most frequently use at work is also connected to the same domain but does not share the same restriction

Then likely, the work computers are individually
set to have certain items greyed out. And not greyed out by just being connected to the domain.

I've found the answer. Posted by appleoddity on a different forum:

Its a group policy handed down from your domain controller probably...

You can also check in control panel -> administrative tools -> local security policy
-> expand "local policies" and select "security options", Look for "interactive logon:
Do not require CTRL - ALT -DEL" and set it to enabled. Then reboot.

Before you change anything you should check with your IT people.

I agree with Jennifer. You could lose your job by doing something like that without authorization. It's a network security matter.
