Name: Randy
I wiped my C-drive and loaded a fresh copy of Windows XP Pro (had plain XP before). I wipe and install fresh on my 4 systems at least yearly. Anyway, I got XP Pro on without issue, performed all the windows updates, installed all the updated drivers for my components and installed Norton System works. Prior to the install I backed up my important stuff on my D-drive. When I went to get my backup stuff from my D-drive it wasn't there, My CDRom was listed as my D-drive and I had no E-drive.
My (old) D-drive shows up in BIOS and through disk managemant, it's the right drive and it is shown as healthy. I have tried the refresh and rescan functions without luck. My (old) D-drive is in NTFS as is my C-Drive. There are no other options highlighted for me to try in disk management. Device manager properties show it as working properly and enabled.
I am at a loss here. How do I get my important backup stuff back...any ideas?
Randy

Hi Randy,
I'm only guessing here, logic in progress rather than expert knowledge. (and i've never used NTFS). But if all shows up in the BIOS, the issue must be with Windows? Isn't reference to the D drive in the allocation tables of the C drive? If so wouldn't a clean reinstall on C have removed this??? Hence it don't show?
As I say, just guessing...

I did the same as you reinstalled windows xp.and now no second hard drive the thing is it shows in device manager and disk management, but not in my computer.from what i see on the web alot of the emails with this problem started in may or june.im thinking maybe windows update corrupted the drive or am i reaching.please help i have alot of family pictures and important files on the second hard drive

Ok i fixed my problem hope it helps you.switch the master and slave hard drives reinstall roxio go back and restart the computer.make sure you go to the bios and switch the boot configuration to the second hard drive.for some reason roxio changes your hard drive so when you did a clean install on the first hard drive and left the second it couldnt show up without go back installed on the system.hope this helped.and i hope it made sense if not go to the microsoft knowledge base article 330140.hope it helps
