The left hand pane in Search is called Search Companion. I presume this is not coming up.
Up in the Standard Buttons Toolbar, click the word Search. That should open Search Companion.

Hi
I'm having the same problem in windows xp.
This pc had the w32.klez virus and it was removed and I have just found it again using the online scan at antivirus.com

I think that the crappy cleaning prosess in the Symantec removal tool probably deleted a file. Although I can't find which one

Or it may be the remains of the virus (or another one this pc seems to have loads)

try running the online scan at antivirus.com and see what it says.

It would be great if you could e-mail me soon and let me know if it turned up any viruses and their names. Then maybee I could work this out.
