'Search for files or folders' not workin

A while ago IE startet behaving weird. Some links doesn't work. Example: I try to go to the www.google.com page. When write the URL in the address window and press Enter I get a blank page. Then I highlight the adress and press Enter again, then the page appears. A lot of links don't work. When pressed nothing happens. Another problem I suspect is related is the 'Search for files or folders' option in the Start Menu. It doesn't work. When I try to use it, nothing happens. Can anyone explain what is wrong and what can be done to make it work again? Any help is appreciated....!
