Search Companion Problem

I have WinXP Home Edition and when I click "Search" I get an error message that says, "A file that is required to run search companion cannot be found. You may need to run setup." This only happens when I'm NOT connected to the internet. When I am connected it works fine. I looked on Microsoft's website and I found a patch but it says it's for if the problem occurs while Connected to the internet. But my problem is when I'm not connected.
Summary: when I double click my c-drive icon, either from my computer or short cut on desktop, the search companion window is opened instead of the folders view. I have to right click the icon and select open...
