Svchost.exe is not a virus to my knowledge but go over these suggestions..

1. Disable error reporting

2. Download and run adaware and or spybot.

3. Download and run Fixblast! and also install the Blaster Patch!.

4. If the problem persists after all of the above then download HijackThis! and post the log file at the security and virus forum on this site.

Goodluck.

scvhost.exe is a result of the W32/GAOBOT worm. Go to http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_100611.htm for instructions.

Take Care: sCVhost.exe is the bad one. sVChost.exe is a system file and should not be removed. Multiple svchost.exe's running at any time is NORMAL. Go to http://answersthatwork.com/ and scroll to svchost.exe for a write-up.

Good Luck

STOP.

Windows\system\svchost.exe is OK.

Windows\svchosts.exe is a virus.

Windows\system\svchost.exe is a vital file, that provides various services for other windows components. There can be multiple instances of Svchost.exe running at the same time. Each Svchost.exe session can contain a grouping of services, so that separate services can be run depending on how and where Svchost.exe is started. This allows for better control and debugging.
Do NOT delete.

download 'Hijack This!'. http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip
Extract/unzip to a new folder; doubleclick/open the program HijackThis.exe,
make sure NO Internet Explorer windows are open,
and hit "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change
into a "Save Log" button.

Press that, save the log, do Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents here in this forum. Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, so don't fix anything yet.
