I have just formatted my computer and put Windows XP on. Now when i open up a folder and drag it round the screen it doesnt move smoothly same with when I scroll down on a web site it is jerky. I havn't installed all my software yet maybe that might fix it but is there any thing else i can do? I had Windows XP on before I formatted so i not that my computer is deffinetly powerfull enought.

Have you installed your external firewall, antivirus programs, etc.? You could already be infected with something.
Run an AV scan, and download AdAware and Spybot, install them, update them, and run. Delete anything that looks suspicious. Some advise deleting everything because it's all reversible. Also get Spyblaster which keeps a list of bad stuff on your computer and blocks them from being installed (theoretically). Be sure your independent (not MS’s) firewall is enabled.
If you had in mind running Hijack This as well, and posting your log, don’t until after you’ve run the two programs below. Then if you want to run HJT and post the log, do so in the Security and Virus settings and say you’ve run these two al-ready. If you don’t do this, the forum moderator will delete your post.

Infected already? It happened as soon as the computer loaded from installing XP a also have the built in firewall switched on and i did that straight away

No i havn't installed any drivers i will try that thanks. I thought I would do all windows updates first

My brother just had this problem this weekend, and the issue was resolved by reinstalling his video card drivers which were the ATI Catalyst 3.9 drivers. Might try that.
