I recently had a screen message that said "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and must shut down". The next thing I know is that the screen-saver will not stop when I touch the mouse or keyboard. The only solution has been to switch the PC off at the wall. If I switch the screen-saver off, I get the desktop and the screen is frozen.
I also seem to be losing the bluetooth connection more frequently between the mouse/keyboard and receiver.
I run Mcafee Virus scan daily and Spybot and Adaware on most days.
What can I do as I don't want to keep switching off at the wall?

Have you tried System Restore to a point before the problems started?
Life's more painless for the brainless.

Thanks for your interest. Unfortunately my System Restore went into suspension due to lack of space, possibly because I had been (over-enthusiastically?) backing up a Maxtor external hard drive, just before the problem occurred. My only automatic restore point was one just after the problem occurred. Sod's law I guess!

I think I have moved my problem on a bit. The monitor and hard disks now stop the screen-saver....But the PC will not come back to life until I remove and replace the bluetooth receiver, when I can then carry on by clicking the mouse or using the keyboard.
I have checked through the device manager and all the devices are stated to be working correctly. The PC is only 12 months old so I do not think the drivers should need updating. The problems seems to be clearly related to the bluetooth receiver but I do not know what to do next.

My Bluetooth Mouse and Keyboard keep losing connection with the PC with increasing frequency. I am fed up of pulling out and replacing the receiver into the USB port. Can't get through to Dell for support. Has anybody any suggestions before I throw this wretched PC through the window?
