Comment:
loaded a while ago some "3Planetsoft" screensavers. Really good and have worked well. All of a sudden my screensaver won't kick in. Tested on preview and they load and work. But leave my computer idle and it doesn't kick in. Even dropped the time delay to 1 minute to test.
Only new piece of equipment I've added since is a Optical Mouse - Cordless. This sits in a cradle for charging so it doesn't move and I have removed the tick from the box in the screensaver setup that says " Exit on Mouse Move". The default XP Screensavers don't seem to work either. Ther doesn't appear to be any activity on the screen or any other programmes running. Ther may be my antispyware etc: running in background but the screen is inactive. Can't understand why it won't kick in.

What appears to be going on here is that your computer is never idle. You've got some process running in the background that keeps it thinking it is busy and so the screen saver, and other power modes, never kick in.
What you can do to troubleshoot this is to go into start/run and type in msconfig and hit enter and uncheck the startup group on the first page that comes up. Then see if the screen saver will kick in. If so, you know it is one of the startup items. So then you go to the Startup tab of msconfig and start adding those things back in until the problem reoccurs and you will have found your culprit. For testing purposes, set your screen saver to turn on after 1 minute.
See if that gets you going.
The only thing I usually run at start-up is my AV and Firewall.

Ok, why not try your regular mouse...the one before the wireless one and see if you still have the problem

hmmmm....so obviously you don't have a PS2 or a wired USB mouse?
I really think the mouse is the problemMaybe borrow a standard mouse from friends or family.....if it is the wireless mouse, then we can troubleshoot more

Right getting to the root of it.
Managed to get original mouse working. It's a Logitech MX700, part of a logitech wireless keyboard, both functioning of one USB Receiver/Cradle. Had problem with charging batteries in mouse so bought a cheap look alike from extras4U.com. Looks remarkably similar and works the same. Called MC Wireless Optical Mouse. Loaded drivers.
Had to leave attached the cradle for MX700 as that works the keyboard. No conflict in Device manager.Any way around this or is it just the new mouse is funky and I need to percevere with the MX700?

In that case you will just have to keep changing settings for the wireless mouse and hopefully you can get it working.,
I don't use a wireless one myself.
Good LuckSome HELP in posting on Cnet plus free progs and instructions Glad to Help!
