Hi,

My screensaver used to work previously and now it doesn't.

I have PowerDVD, is that the problem?
I checked for PCMService.exe - isn't there.
My drivers aren't not all updated - out-of-dt ones include Monitor, USB, Display, MEDIA. DO I have to run the install drivers CD again?
Screensaver isn't pwd protected.
Service Pack 2 isn't present.
No Spyware.
I have an expired version of McAfee.

Please help.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
AKB

Sounds like your system is a total mess - the screensaver is the least of your problems.

Start by dumping McAfee...what's the point of running expired protection? Would use a condom that's a year past it's "use by" date? Replace McAfee with Avast! Home Edition:

And why don't you have SP2 installed? Is your copy of XP is pirated?

No Spyware protection either? Try SUPERAntiSpyware:

And don't forget to use a Cleaner:

As for the drivers, it's generally best to keep them updated. I have no idea what hardware you have so I can't link you to the latest drivers. If you have a Dell, you could start by looking at Dell.com, otherwise you can download them from the individual hardware manufacturer's websites (nVidia, ATI, VIA, Intel, Realtek, etc).

Why would you suspect PowerDVD has anything to do with your screensaver problem? Have you checked the sceensaver & power option settings?

Well, I was able to enable the screensaver by changing one thing - the 'Monitor Type' in 'Monitor' tab in Display Properties->Settings.

I didn't need to go thru anything else.
