I have become stumped as to how to eliminate the (None) option for a screensaver in Windows XP Pro. I do not want to take away the choice of what kind of screen saver an end user selects, but when they select the (None) option, it resets the registry value under HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop by removing the value SCRNSAVE.exe REG_SZ C:\Windows\System32\Bliss.scr. Without this value, the PC will not enter the screensaver mode and password protection capabilities of an idle desktop is not initiated even when the timeout was set.
Is there a way to eliminate the (None) choice while leaving the other choices intact for the best overall user experience in an Active Directory environment? I'm thinking this could be accomplished with a service possibly, special rights to specific account(s) for that registry key, or maybe even a GPO. Anyone experience this or know how to accomplish this?
Thanks, Dave

It sounds like you want to restrict your users to a specific screensaver almost. I don't know how to remove the "None" option, but you can easily use a group policy to set a specific screensaver and a timeout period. Look in the User Configuration area for Control Panel | Desktop | Screensaver. I'm not sure if this is exactly what you want, but it's the easiest to implement (espcially if you're on a domain)...
