Screen Saver Not Functioning

OS: Win XP Home SP1
CPU/Ram: Pentium 4 / 2.66 GHz / 25

My screen saver is not functioning - I have set my properties correctly and even tried using various different screen savers - but they will NOT turn on after the specified time - the "power" function to power down the system after a specified time is also not working ... any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Check in your BIOS that you have APM enabled.
