Comment:

When I come into my office on Mondays and boot up my computer my screen size switches to 800X600. I have to manually re-set it back to 1280 X 1024 after every weekend. It only happens on Mondays. The rest of the time everything works normally.

Does anybody know what's going on and how I can stop this from happening?

I'm connected to a server 2003 computer, but I don't think that has anything to do with it. My screen is re-set before I even get to the login screen.

Nobody else in my office has this problem.

What's going on?

Thanks

Why are you shutting down your computer at all? Most offices request that PCs connected to a server are left on 24/7 so that updates can be pushed thru during off-hours. I don't know why the resolution is resetting, but check with your co-workers to see if they shutdown their PCs over the weekend.

Go to Control Panel - Display - Settings.
In the Display box, what does it say your monitor and display adapter are set to?

Isn't there anyone in charge of the entire office network & computers that could help you with what is really the office problem (not yours)?

Thanks for the responses.

In my industry we are very 'earth' conscious (a little too much so in my opinion). We shut down all office electronics to conserve energy over the weekends (Obviously not the main server though). But our neurotic behavior and mindset in this area is a separate unrelated issue.

I'm running Win XP SP2.
My display settings are:

NVIDIA GeForce 7100 GS
DAC Type: Integrated RAMDAC
Memory Size: 512MB
Refresh Rate: 60Hertz
Screen Resolution: 1280X1024
Color Quality: 32bit
Color Management: none

This is all I can find about the display adapter.

I turn my computer off everyday too. No point in leaving it on when nothing's happening. It's set in the bios to automatically come on everyday at 7:00 am.

Would you know of anyone else logging into your machine...locally or remotely on Mondays? All I can think off is an app or screensaver that kicks-on on Mondays.

OK then - the video drivers have been installed.

Start - Control Panel
If you see "Pick a Category", click on "Switch to Classic View" on the left.
- Display - Settings.
In the Display box, what does it say your MONITOR is set to?

It will probably be its model, or Default Monitor, or Plug and Play Monitor... on NVidia whatever adapter.

Yeah, it just says 'plug and play monitor' manufacturer: (standard monitor types).

I don't understand what's going on. I don't know why Mondays would be any different than any other day, except that perhaps it's a longer time period to be shut off.

Strange.

If your monitor is LCD, XP's Plug and Play Monitor setting was made way back when XP was first released and has not changed since. It was designed primarily for CRT displays and there is very little support for LCD displays built into it other than for old laptop displays, and some settings that are available when you choose Plug and Play Monitor will not work properly with newer LCD monitors, and certain settings can even damage the LCD monitor if you use them.

Whether you are using an LCD monitor or not....
If you get the drivers for your monitor model from the manufacturer's web site and load them, your problem of the display resoution changing on it's own will probably go away, and by default Windows will then show you only the settings that both the monitor model and the NVidia drivers support.

The actual model may be on the back of the monitor if it isn't obvious on the front of it.
