hey all,
I updated my video driver, and after that windows xp went blank at login screen. before login screen, the screen shows normal procedure of starting up. I think I have to uninstall the video driver or replace it with the old one. But how can I do that?
Please help.
thanks.

Reboot into Safe Mode and try Last Known Good Configuration. The function primarily restores your box to a time before there were any driver problems. It can't hurt. 8-)

I have tried safe mode, Last know good configuration, vga mode. also tried 'fix windows' from setup disk.
no luck. :(
the system is still working fine though. it's only the video is not showing. so i am guessing the driver must be wrong. but since i can't see anything after system start up, i can't replace it.

I'm having a similar problem, but mine started when I installed the recent Service Pack 2. I boots up normal, but after the black "Starting Windows" screen and before the login screen, I get a blank black screen which stays for about 20 - 40 seconds. When I first noticed it, I pushed the Reset button button on my PC, thinking that it froze.
I, too, tried safe mode and last known good condition. No change. I then tried System Restore, but it didn't have any of my restore points (I'm assumed they were wiped clean during the service pack installation), so I couldn't restore to anything. I ran Norton WinDoctor, and it says that everything is fine.
I'm stumped. I'm tempted to uninstall the service pack, but I'm afraid it might to more harm than good.
Any advise???

Boot into safe mode and go to control panel - add/remove programs - uninstall the video card software that you installed and reboot. If this doesn't work, try to boot to safe mode go to control panel - system - device manager - right click on display adapter and click uninstall. Reboot and you should be good to go.

thanks.
but the safe mode is not even working.
i have to finally format the hard drive and reinstall xp from scratch.
:(
