Screen goes and must unplug to reboot

Microsoft Windows xp professional w/ sp2

Specs: Windows XP SP3, AMD Sempron2800+ 224MB
For a few months now, my computer will be running along fine and then the screen goes all blurry and you cannot reboot unless you unplug and replug the computer. Then it goes through the blue screen (checking file system FAT32) that goes through the files, etc. It then will generally happen two or three times like this. I will have to unplug and start over again. Then it might be fine for a while and just suddenly goes. My suspicion is Nortons 360 or incredimail. Any help would be appreciated.

Although I dislike Norton, I don't think that is it.

I feel this is more likely Hard Drive or Power Supply or Ram issue (ie Hardware)

I am leaning towards Hard Drive because you are running Fat32, and it was likely updated from an older OS

Actually I just checked what you put in above "224MB" of Ram (actually being 256Meg less 32Meg being used by your onboard Video controller)

You desperately need more Ram, I'd say minimum 1Gig with Norton installed

For the moment, you "might" want to try a less resourced Antivirus
Uninstall Norton
Run the Removal Tool:

Download and install Free Avira Antivirus:
And run a full updated scan (since you had Norton, you likely have malware anyway)

I will try this and let you know if it works. Cheers.
