I'm purchasing 5 new computers for my school There is already a network at the school basically made up of machines running Win2k or Win98.
I was wondering if it is necessary to purchase XP Pro in a setup like this, or would Home edition work fine (what's the main differences).

If you are (or thinking of) running a domain, then you will need XP Pro - XP Home can't join a domain.

If its a domain then you must have XP Pro (as Steve has said XP HE will not let you join a domain)
If you are a workgroup then XP HE will be fine (I think there is a 10 PC limit for HE workgroups but I'm not sure how tightly that is enforced on a mixed OS workgroup)
