Does anyone know if there is a Command similar to Scanreg/Restore for Windows XP. How do you restore your XP system to an earlier configuration from a command prompt??
Desperately needing some help.

Thanks

Start your computer to Safe Mode with Command Prompt.

At the command prompt, type:

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

and then press ENTER.

Follow the instructions on the screen to begin restoring your computer to a previous, functional state

Scanreg /Restore of Win9x and System Restore of WinXP although they perform similar functions are very different.
Scanreg, if not disabled, automatically creates 5 back up copies of the system.dat and user.dat files for the last 5 successful boots for the last 5 calender days whereas System Restore, if enabled, only creates restore points when a major software is installed or a restore point is created manually.
System Restore, if enabled, may not have a viable restore point.

Scanreg /restore is more like "Last known good configuration" that are created upon successful logins versus boot ups and there is only one; the last one.

Bryan
