scanner problem

I have recently purchased a mustek scanner 1200 ub plus & whenever i put the disk in 2 install it everything installs ok. but on the taskbar its shows the scanner with a red X through it & it wont work. Can anyone tell me whats wrong? Many thanks

Did you follow the Instructions in the Manual correctly?
Often - with USB Devices - you have to Install the Drivers\Software first and then Plug in the Device - the New Hardware Wizard then searches for the Drivers

I have done exactly as it says in the manual, which is the same as you have said, but i dont understand y its not working.

Check your services: Press WinKey+R (That's the MS-LOGOkey+R) to get the Run-Box, then type: services.msc
Scroll down the list for Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) Rightclick on it for properties, make sure it's started and automatic.
Scanners need that service to be running. Also, check the uPNP services (in this order): SSDP Discovery Service Universal PNP Device Host
They should also be running & auto. Write down current settings so you can change them back if you no longer need them. Hope it works !:)
