Remove the existing driver. Download an updated one from the vendon's site or go to www.driverguide.com It has a collection of scanner drivers that users tested and users who probably had the same problem. PS. Posting the scanner brand and the driver version that you have can help you more find the right answer. Brutus

Knowing which OS you are running would help as well, in fact it is essential if you are to get the right drivers. Stuart

If you don't know what OS you have and what your CPU and Ram are, you're not going to solve your other problems.
