ok i finally managed to find some drivers that work for my Tiny fu621d scanner which is apparently actually made my primex. Ther are no xp drivers as i understand it but the windows 2000 drivers are suppose to work fine for xp.
And they did....up until a point. I did a scan of a cashew nut and it worked fine. then i went to try something else but it just froze up with no activity from the scanner and my cashew nut still appearing in the scan selection window even thought it wasnt in the scanner.
what could be causing this? i dont see why it should be the dirvers if it worked fine the first time, any other suggestions?

HOnestly, toss the scanner. I got a hold of a scanner that didnt have XP drivers, and the 2000 gave me problems. Scanners are cheap enough that it is not worth the hassle trying to deal with it, if you really use it that often. If you dont use it that often, then just use a friend's.

right, thanks for the advice but did you consider maybe its some setting on my pc thats stopping it from working.
im well aware of that option is all im saying

Hi echobunny,
I think scanners need the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service to be running.
Press WinKey+R(that's MS-LOGOkey+R) to get the Run-Box, and type:
services.msc
Scroll down the list until you find it and rightclick on it for properties. Make sure it has started before you use the scanner. If it's already running, then I'm out of answers already, 'coz I don't have a scanner, and they can be tricky from what I've heard.

as far as i know xp drives for the scanner dont exist. they didnt bother making them, they just advise you to use the 2000 ones

Hi echobunny.
Does your scanner software have a preview button?
On my scanner I have to hit preview first to get a new image in the scanner window and then use the scan button to do the scan.
Take care,Linda

My in-laws had a scanner that had't been used for a long time. When they scanned a picture it scanned, but later when they attempted to scan another it wouldn't scan at all. We cleaned the glass on the scanner and it worked. When looking at the glass it didn't appear to be dirty but I guess they can be very sensitive. Also you could uninstall it and reinstall it using the compatibility mode feature on XP. Two shots in the dark but they're worth a try.

ok the glass wasnt dirty
im not sure about the compatibility mode, how would i go about doing that
i have 2 drivers. one is an exe and im not sure it works and the other is a folder full of driver files
