I have a scanner mustek a3 usb, with w2k it perfectly worked but with xp home edition It doesn't work.
The installation has correctly succeeded but if I try to begin the scanning it doesn't start.
I have also tried to download the drivers from mustek internet site but without any result.
My pc is an acer aspire t350.
If someone could give me some suggestion I would be him of it very thankful.

You must uninstall your old drivers first, did you follow these instructions

Before installing the latest version of driver software, please uninstall any previous version of software components if there's any.
Disconnect your product's USB cable from the computer.
Download the following files:
Scanner¡G XPDriver.exe, Web.exe ~ Web.w0x. and UP_LIB.exe ~ UP_LIB.w0x. ( Both the " Twain Driver and Panel" and "Generic Scanning Module" )
Camera¡G XPDriver.exe, Web.exe ~ Web.w0x.
Execute the XPDriver.exe program and decompress the program in the temp folder.
Connect the product to the computer. A "Found New Hardware Wizard" appears , please select "Advanced" and click "Next" to continue with the hardware installation procedure.
Then click the "Browse" to select the temp folder as the driver's location, and then follow the onscreen instructions to continue.
With the product connected to the PC, execute the Web.exe and UP_LIB.exe programs to install other drivers.
Restart your computer, once the installation is complete.

I have removed and installed everything for the nth time but without success.
The scanner is not seen by XP.

Had a similar problem to yours not more than 2weeks past. Tried everything you have to no avail. As a last resort I turned off the resident AV program before installing the drivers for the last before the scanner (Mustek) was consigned to the rubbish bin.

Not saying that it will work for you but it is worth a try.

Lessons learnt the hard way are not easily forgotten.

I have tried to install the scanner on another pc, with xp, but without any result, the installation goes to good end but the scanner is not seen.
To be sure there were no HW problems I have also retried with windows 2000 and the scanner perfectly works

Excuse me, what's the resident AV? I hope is not a resident devil...

Do you think that a witch can help me?

Antivirus program may well be stopping the installation. Try disabling it before you install the scanner drivers.

I have installed from zero the XP operating system on another HD, I have referred the installation of the scanner with the original cd without success.
I have checked the content of the original cd and I have seen that there was not the briefcase of file for XP (there were only the briefcases for w2k and win98), then with the regedit I have gone in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> Software -> Microsoft -> Windows NT -> CurrentVersion
and I have modified the key of register:
"ProductName" from "Microsoft Windows XP" to "Microsoft Windows 2000"
After having removed the preceding installation, I have installed again the all and the scanner has finally begun to work!!!!

Once verified the correct operation of the scanner I have restored the value of the key of register:
"ProductName" from "Microsoft Windows 2000" to "Microsoft Windows XP"

Thanks endless for the moral support! ;o)
