Go to the web site of the manufacturer and see if they have updated drivers for Windows XP.
A lot of scanners use TWAIN drivers and Windows XP does not recognize TWAIN.
If you have a program like Adobe PhotoShop or Adobe PhotoDeluxe open it up to get photo and click on Scanner. As far as Win XP is concerned it is only an imaging device and if it shows your scanner there you can use the Adobe program to run the scanner.
