scandisk chkdisk?

OS: xp pro + sp2
CPU/Ram: 1.8 amd + 655 sdram
Comment:

when i try to defrag my h/d it says to run scandisk or chkdisk my question is how do you run these on xp

go to start/run/cmd and then type chkdsk /f (as typed with spaces). The check will be done on next reboot.

open 'my computer', right click on the drive in question, chose properties, click the 'tools' and hit the button 'check now'.

if it is your system drive, the check cannot be performed within windows and will be scheduled for the next start.
