whenever i right click and select new wordpad on this laptop it always names it "New Wordpad Document.doc - why the .doc? new text documents are named "New Text Document.txt - again why the .txt on the end? that doesnt happen on other computers that I have. how can i get this to simply save as "New Wordpad Document" etc. thanks in advance.

I'm assuming you don't want to see file extensions.

go to ControlPanel then go to FolderOptions and place a check mark where it says Hide extensions for known file types.

I know I helped you out with your problem but my advice or my real help towards you would be to suggest and/or advice you to be familiarized with file extensions. I guarantee you being familiar with them will come in handy.
