I'm about to format a computer, the Norton still has about 300 days left on it, is there away I can get Norton back after the format?

Sure.

Just reinstall it after your rebuild is complete.

Better yet, dump Norton altogether & use one of the freebies such as or Avast! or AVG Free.

Why are you formatting??

Do you have the cd? If so just reinstall from it. You will have to register it with symantec again so you need your product key. Then update definitions. That's all there is to it. As a note, install nav before connecting to internet, then update right away.

system has slowed right down , the people who own it just have to much junk on it $ it will else faster to format and reinstall.

So you think Norton will just pickup at the 300 days? I don't think will.

Norton sucks, but if you like it, simply reinstall it.

Sometimes reformatting/reinstalling is quicker, sometimes it's not. Either way, you have a lot of work ahead of you. Hopefully you have copies of all the device drivers & other programs that you'll be wiping out?

It seems that this is not his machine so dumping is not an option. As far as picking up at 300 days, it should by the product key. One time I reformatted and reactivated Norton and somehow got a full year. But I have dumped it for NOD32.

It might be better to first uninstall Norton before reformatting and later reinstalling.

As opposed to simply fixing the problem?

Any A/V is better than Norton and McAfee. They both put thousands of registry entries in the registry.

per: I'm curious-how many entries do programs such as Avast! or AVG Free put in the registry ?

Never counted them but they are MUCH easier to uninstall. I have spent hours cleaning Norton and McAfee out of the registry.
