"no url is saved...only websites..will save" What exactly do you mean by that?

Firefox uses Bookmarks, not Favorites. Do you have write permission to the folder where the bookmarks.html file is stored?

I assume you are using "Bookmark this page" feature, it saves it but will not open.

Try downloading the latest Firefox version (3.5.6) and installing it. You don't need to uninstall the previous one first. If this doesn't do the trick then uninstall it and re-install from the download.

"i don't know how else to save things in firefox than click bookmark...?"

I don't use bookmarks for anything, here is a tutorial for you to read.

Also you may like to get an Add-on.

Bookmarks > Get Bookmark Add-ons.

When you Bookmark a page, or Favorite a page in IE, it does not reference the URL (normally)

ie If you Bookmark
It will bookmark as "Google"

Are you trying to bookmark the actual URL ?
Is that the issue?
And when you Bookmark say Google, does the Bookmark work when clicked on?

I find it strange that Internet Explorer does not do the same thing

But this sounds like Security & Virus: forum candidate

For the moment run a Quick updated scan with Free Malwarebytes:

Are you using the Bookmarks word at the top left of the FF page while on the page you wish to save and using the "bookmark this page"?

Did you import Bookmarks from IE?

I must be getting a bit dozy. Re this:
"opening the saved bookmark:

bookmarks>organize bookmarks>bookmark menu>click open> i get people magazine url.....??????"

Unless you've saved the bookmark into a folder, or want to do something further with it, then all you need to do is go to Bookmarks then run down the list to find what you have saved. What happens when you click that entry?

As Derek has asked, what happens when you click on the listing in Bookmarks. The page should open and the URL will then display in the address box. Really no different than IE.

as Derek and OtheHill described i did, only thing is not all of them were there that i saved....

hence why i would go to "top of page left side" bookmarks>organize bookmarks>bookmarks menu> and from there i'd go down the list and click on the link i wanted to open...some of them would have the name, but no url under the location, and therefore it was non-existent.....others would have the full url and they would open....

running anti spyware now.... many thx once again for everyone's patience and effort in trying to work this out for me...:-)
