OS: windows xp
CPU/Ram: AMD
Product: mobo Asus a7n8x
Comment:

Hi all,
my configuration is :
2 HDD SATA Seagate 200G each, RAID, Windows Xp , Mobo Asus a7n8x.
The problem :
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt : \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
So, I tried to access the recovery console to fix this problem by replacing the missing or corrupted file, but I can't access the console using the Windows CD... a new message pops up saying that Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your comput.
So, my question is :
How to get the recovery console to work at this point ?
I didn't mount this PC and I'm a newbie in this area, but how can I tell what kind of RAID this is ? RAID 0, 1 .. etc.
I have the sata driver sil3112 installed, both HDD are well plugged in and working...could it be a corrupted RAID array ? can I reinstall it ? or disabling it while attending the repair of the corrupted file ?
Thank you all for your help. Karlos

1. Jump inot the bios and have a look at the settings... Ensure Sil3112 is enabled to RAID.

Reboot and when given the option press PF4-usualy, or whichever option your are presented with to get inot the raid controller bios....

Once in you will be presented with a number of options, selsect the one which gives you the raid array and d rive disk information..

This will tell you what raid config it is and if the array is still healthy....

If you have at any time tried to relaod the system without correct procedure you would have corupted the installation but not the array, the array can only be delated through the controller and only after deleteing ALL THE PARTITIONS on the drives..

No you cant desable the raid controller to fix the problem...

Do you ahve adata on there that you cant afford to loose ??? Is the array partitioned ? if so how many partitions ??
Is your XP CD with or without SP1 or 2 ?

IS you mother board bios up to date ??? As these updates can have an inbuilt update for the raid controller also !!!

What do you wish to do stay with it or desabel the raid controller ???

IF IT AINT BROKE, DONT FIX IT

Thanks for your input. I fixed my problem. I downloaded the last si3112 driver from Silicon Image's website, and I finally reached the recovery console and made the change. Problem fixed. Thanks again.
