Hey folks -- just a solution here. If anyone has gotten a "hardware initiate failed" "bios not installed" with a SATA II hard drive on bootup, this is a likely solution for you. Apparently the chipset (VIA 8237 in my case) does not like the higher speed of SATA II drives. You need to jumper the drive to force it to 150MB/s (SATA I speed). This works for Western Digital drives -- don't know about others. FYI. Good Luck!
