I Have installed a SATA DVD on my PC in place of an IDE DVD. The drive runs fine once i get a disk in, the problem is when i insert a disk, when it starts to read, the screen freezes and the PC is stuck like that. If i reboot with the disk in, it works fine and i can access data etc. Anyone suggest anything?

Yes i have the latest ITE SATA drivers 5/2007. I have a SATA hd (boot) and IDE hd (storage) that work fine. Its just this problem with getting a disk into the DVD. As i said before once the disk is in and i reboot, the DVD drive reads/writes just fine!! Any ideas..............anyone???

Look to see how the DVD drive is seen in the BIOS. As an IDE or as a SATA.

Thats an awkward one to answer, on startup the SATA HD and DVD are listed on the first screen, then the computer does an IDE scan and finds the other IDE HD. If i enter Bios with F2 then the SATA drives are listed as IDE1 and IDE2. But to be honest i don't see how they can be listed anywhere else in BIOS. There is no mention of SATA in BIOS. Also i have the most up to date BIOS downloaded from Abit for my MOBO. Still struggling any.............any help???
