recently purchased a maxtor 200gb sata drive that im trying to install but windows is not detecting the drive. BIOS recgonizes the drive but not windows. currently have xp installed on a regular ATA drive that i want to clone to the SATA.
SATA drive is forrmatted with partition magic
but the main issue is that windows does notsee the drive not in disk managements also.

Please help

Did you make sure you have the Abit windows drivers installed for the SATA feature?

You need to have the drivers for the SATA controller on a floppy when you are installing Windows and as soon as the installation starts, you need to press F6. Then Windows will stop where it needs to and ask you to insert the floppy with the drivers on it.

Unfortunately, XP doesn't load any "generic" SATA drivers during installation.

You need to get them from your Motherboard CD or from the manufacturer's website.

It really should work. Maybe you can ask in a newsgroup that supports Abit. Look here--someone says there is no problem with this board:

http://groups.google.com/group/alt.comp.hardware.pc-homebuilt/browse_thread/thread/ebea61e4c47c09c6/dccbb88b6da9c15c?lnk=st&q=abit+nf8-v+sata+problems&rnum=1&hl=en#dccbb88b6da9c15c

I believe there is a group specifically for ABit as well.
