I'm getting an SAS window: winlogon.exe - Application error when trying to log into my system, it says 'A single step or trace operation has just been completed' 0x0..4 occurred in the app @ loc. 0x0...!

I've tried every option in the F8, keep getting the same error! I cannot get to a dos prompt, When i used safe mode, and I see the printed 'safe mode' in the corners but the screen is black!!

I used a win98 boot disk but it didn't reorganize the c drive, but I was able to get to my cd-rom drive and tried to run the setup.exe on the recovery cd that came with my pc, I got a message Cannot run from DOS! What the hell is that! Who makes a recovery cd that needs to run from windows! I can't get into windows!

Any help in this matter is highly appreciated!

Thanks,
Tom

Just to say that when using the Recovery CD that
came with my Compaq Presario 5320US, all I have to do is boot with the CD in the drive. Then a menu come up. I do not have to execute a file.
