When ever I turn off my computer there is an End Now box that apears. It says Sample.exe would you like to end it now to properly shut down windows yadda yadda yadda. I dont have any programs called sample.exe and i looked in Windows Task Manager and there isnt anything that resembles Sample.exe. Has anyone come across this?? Any ideas how i can get rid of it when ever I log off my computer? Could this be a problem from sp2?

here check this out

i dont have a p2p program on here(this is my dads laptop). Also i dont have Norton I have McAfee and i have dont multiple virus scans and updates i dont think this is it. Any more ideas?

yes, but i have seen mcafee say there is no virus on the machine and then that machine hit my norton machines with a virus, happened in my own office, it is your judgement tho...you could just delete sample.exe out of system and registry after backing up the registry

Do you have an Intel Ethernet or Wireless card in this?
You have to run the setup.exe program that comes with the Intel driver so it will load some software.

yes it has a built in wirelss card. Why would it ask you to end program Sample.exe when you log off? It has only been doing this for a week and i have had this comp almost a year.
Ya i dont really trust mcaffee.

You could also have the Nimda worm. Look here - http://www.itc.virginia.edu/desktop/virus/results.php3?virusID=5
Your reasoning doesn't make much sence. You've been given the answer as to why this is happening but you argue that you don't think it's a virus.
"It has only been doing this for a week and i have had this comp almost a year."
Well, that means you have been virus free for a year and you have had the virus for a week.
Go to Trend Micro's site and do an online virus scan. Whether you want to admit it or not, you have a virus.

no i didnt say that i didnt think it was a virus that was just the way u interpeted it. im not here to argue im grateful for your help either way. nething can help.

those links didnt help i d/l the virus tools and they didnt find any virus. Anyone else have an idea what could be wrong??
thx for your help

I had the same Problem. Running the setup of the Intel Wireless Software again (not just installing the drivers, but the whole application) got rid of it.
