Please help me with the following problem: When I connect a jump drive or digital camera to a USB port I can view the photos or download the pictures from the camera but after using the Safely Remove Hardware to disconnect the device it does the disconnection but the system freezes and have to restart to get back the control.
Windows XP Media Center Edition, v.2002; SP2
Intel(R), Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00 GHz; 1.00 RAM
M. Board: Intel D865 PERL

Instead of safely remove the entire USB media card reader, try safely remove only the drives assigned to the jump drive and digital camera. FYI: Safely remove the entire USB card reader usually freeze the computer, necessitating forced restart.

Thank you much XpUser for your reply. How do I just remove the assigned drives? Before I clicked on the Safely Remove Hardware icon and that worked.

Or else open Windows Explorer, right click drive then select EJECT. WARNING: Don't try this if you are running Vista and the file system on the USB drive is NTFS. This can cause data to disappear. See the MSKB below for explanation.

The problem was solved and the USB port is working OK.
