Comment:

I've noticed just recently that when i plug my usb drive in, an icon appears in task bar, saying safely remove hardware. It never used to appears, i could plug my usb drive in and out, when no icon.

Now if i dont click it to stop using device, my data that i copied onto it or from it to the computer disappears.

Was there a recent update to enable that icon, i would like to get rid of it.

The main idea behind the Safely Remove Hardware Notification is to prevent corruption of data stored on USB devices, and also the FAT table.

It is because Windows dislike surprise removal of hot plugs especially when some user-invoked operation is in process or when some application is linked to it.

Having said that, it is there as a safety feature for your personal files. Use it or risk the potential loss of what may be dear to you!

It is not present if no USB device is currently in use.
