Safely Remove Hardware icon in Taskbar

Comment:
After installing RC2 I now have an icon "Safely Remove Hardware" on the taskbar next to the volumn icon. There is no way for me to remove this icon, I can only go to the taskbar properties and hide the icon. My problem is I don't want the icon there at all "who would so your kids can remove your hardware?" I did a search and Windows couldn't find anything related to Safely Remove Hardware. I also physically checked all the Files in Windows and couldn't find the icon. Has anyone else experienced this anomaly and is there a fix? Thanks,Scott

I have the exact same problem, but with my SMC USB Ethernet cable modem. The modem works perfectly, but XP insists on bringing up this icon!!

Same thing here, but for a USB cable modem. Maybe USB is the common thread? Whatever it is, it irks me to no end.

Same here, USB cable modem. I did have to update its driver for XP. After I updated it, XP recognized the hardware but said it was not "Digitally Signed". So maybe that's why this icon appears?

The icon is to shutdown your usb device, so you can safely unplug your hardware. mostly used for camera,s etc. Only the problem is you will never disconnect your usb modem. so this icon is unwanted.. don't now yet how to remove it. Only best way is to set it as a always hide. in right click menu from systray. But then you will get a other icon......
But it has nothing to do with hardware uninstalling.. only disconnecting temporary..

I'm having the same thing w/ my USB Burner... It's really a pain, but I'm searching for a way to rid myself of it. If I find anything I'll post it, everyone else do the same. :\

I'm having the same problem as well. The only thing is that I am not having it with any of my usb devices (a mouse and camera). It comes up only for my dvd/cdr combo drive. Anyway, if anyone finds a way to trash this icon, throw us a line.
