Hi, After uninstall norton antivirus program, the "safely remove hardware" icon is gone, and there is no way to get it back unless i log off user and log on again. It is really annoying that i coudn't swap pcmcia devices without it. Anyone who knows how to fix this please help. Thanks.

well, that's norton for ya :-)

in Windows XP, Microsoft responded to complaints about cluttering the tray with icons by allowing users to dump the icon for safe hardware removal and many other so-called notifications. The commands are in the Taskbar Properties menu that is reached by giving a right-click to the Start button and picking Customize.

There you will find a list of all of the gadgets and software registered to display notification icons when attached to the computer. Each is accompanied by commands for stopping or starting their display. In your case you'll want to add a check in the box for the Remove Hardware icon and it will be restored.

hope that helps.

Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'
