Hi,
I am unable to start my computer in safe mode using the F8 key. I read an earlier post and they said to use msconfig diagnostics key. I tried that and was unable to see anything listed in device manager.I need to start my computer in safe mode because I have to delete the USB devices.
Is there any other Key or way that I can get into safe mode? or can I just delete the devices without being in safe mode?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanking you in advance,
Nanette

"Delete the USB devices"??
If you are talking about things that are plugged in to a USB port then all you need to do is unplug them and they should disapear or at the least become disabled till you plug them back in or uninstall the program/drivers.
There may also be a "safely remove hardware" icon in your start bar that you can click on and highlite the item you wish to remove and it will tell you it is safe to remove it, then just unplug it.
Hope that helpsIN THE MATTERS OF STYLE,

Hi,
Thanx for responding. The reason I need to do this is because I have an HP all in one printer and I cannot use the system diagnostics device tab. It sends a error message to MS.I wrote to HP and they told me to resolve the issue that I need to uninstall the USB port and reinstall it. They said to start my computer in safe mode, go into device manager, double click on Universal Serial Bus controllers, right click the device listed USB and uninstall and click ok for removal. Im to repeat the steps untill all the devices under USB are uninstalled.
I was just in device manager and I have 2 Standard Open HCD USB Host Controllers and 3 USB Root Hub listed.
The only thing that uses the USB hook up is my printer.
I have cable, but that is a different connection...correct?
I wrote in a while ago asking about my internet connection problem....could this USB thing be connected to this problem?
Thanking you in advance,
Nanette

Nanette, The link below has illustrated instructions for starting your computer in SAFE mode under Windows XP "To use the System Configuration Utility method".
