I am trying to run my comp in safe mode so that i can get rid of some trojans. But as soon as the safe mode is loaded, the desktop screen goes blank with only "safe mode" printed on the four corners. I would really appreciate any suggestions.
thanks

I had this problem too for awhile, but it seems to have fixed itself and now it works fine for me, sorry I don't have a solution.

Your computer being buggy may take longer than usual to get into Safe mode, you can try hitting Enter, this may get it moving.

Another way, turn off the comp, using the on/off button. When the computer is turned on the next time Windows should notice that the computer did not successfully boot and give you the safe mode screen.

hey johnw,
well, the safe mode screen shows up, but the desktop remains black and blank. There is a cursor which moves, that is, the mouse works. Only that the desktop needs to light up.

Just reread your 1st post Nikhil & you don't say, you cant get normal mode.

Try this, click on Start > Run, type "msconfig", then click on the "Boot.ini" tab, then CHECK the "/SAFEBOOT" option, then click on Apply, then OK. After you've finished in Safe Mode, then open "msconfig/Boot.ini tab", then UNCHECK the "/SAFEBOOT" box.
