How can I shutdown the pc when in safe mode command prompt? There's no "Start" button for me to go into shutdown mode. I dont't think "Ctrl Alt Del" is the proper way to shut it down right?

Yes it is. Ctrl Alt Del will bring up Task Manager, with Shutdown on the tab with various options.

xpuser, when in safe mode <command prompt> there is no no way of bringing up the task manager with ctrl + alt + del ...
when in safe mode <command prompt> ctrl + alt + del will only 'reset' the computer ... to shut down you pc just press the power button for about 5 sec until it goes off.

I disagree. I restarted the PC & chosen Safe Mode. U then hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and it bought up Task Manager with that Shutdown tab. What OS are you running? I am running XP PRo SP2.

Win 98 seems to have faded from my memory (I guess I must be getting old :-))
In XP CTRL-ALT-DEL is my path to shut down or restart the OS from all Safe Mode modes.

Win98 Safe Mode Command Prompt is honest-to-god-DOS.
Just turn the machine off, as per #2
