Since yesterday, without doing anything special with my computer, when Windows are loading, after the welcome screen I get a "runtime error 53 ,file not found " message.I've only used Norton Systemworks and Ad-aware as usual without removing something suspicious. After I click it, Windows load properly. Today, after the welcome screen, Windows stopped loading. The Alt+Ctr+Del windows appeared, I could restart or shut down but it wouldn't load further (although safe mode worked OK) . I tried rebboting 2 or 3 times and it still didn't work. Then , the fourth time the "runtime eroor" appeared again and after I clicked it XP started again properly.
Does anyone have any idea why I get this problem?

It seems that one of your programmes that is loading on startup is not doing so correctly.
To isolate which one use msconfig to disable your startup programmes one by one.
Once you have found the offending programme, uninstall and reinstall it.

I have the same problem. I disabled both system services and startup programs using msconfig but that did not help either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dale

I install the freeware of Ad-Aware 6.0 personnel. But when I remove that software to load that from startup.I got the mesage run time error 53.so i do lot of attempts and afterward i restore the xp to its last known good configuration.
I just do it by restarting the computer to safe mode and using restore utilities which was integrated to xp.
that solve my problem.
i didnt get those run time error.

I also have adaware 6 and norton systemworks with antivirus 2002. I am having the same problem when I try to load nothing loads. But I can still use task manager. I left it on for a long time one time I went to do something it was about an hour when I came back it said, in a error box "it's time" and the title of it was "Project1" than it said "runtime error 53 File Not Found". So if anyone knows plz help.

Second time I got the same error.I do the whole process(booting the xp in last known good configuration but it can't load the xp,only Task manager load)
I again restart the computer by pressing f8 and fixing the active directory controller ,itloads with all the process and then I restore the xp by system restore tools to it's backward time from system tools and again boot the xp in normal boot.
it takes time up to 10 minutes butit works.now i didn't face that problem.

I did find sysu.exe and deleted it, but its still not like it was before it runs like its in safe mode but its not, havent figured out what it is. I can tell you its in safe mode because it says it has no audio device and all drivers are installed, also the XP look isnt there. Even after I tried to just reinstall it but I will have to reformat.
